In fact, the presence of a band structure leads to the presence of a frequency range, where light cannot propagate inside the photonic crystal. Therefore it is interesting to study the dynamics of atoms embedded in a photonic crystal. In this work we will analyze the dynamics of a three level atom embedded in a photonic crystal (PC), as an impurity, interacting with the radiation field modified by the PC. The evolution is described by the master equation. We will present its numerical solutions for different parameter regimes. At the end we will also analyze the response of the system to a laser applied to one of the atomic transitions.
